Just about every social circle discussing seo will offer up huffs, eye rolls and scoffing you start talking about link building. It's a dirty word to some because of the nature of the beast. Link building is time consuming and often frustrating. With the constant changes made to the algorithms it can also be a little confusing for some. The fact remains however that no matter which way you spin seo, link building is still at the core of improving your position in the search results. Here are some tips to get in right direction with your link building.

Create Lists - People love lists and they're one of the best ways to get content shared. This can generate a lot of link love for your content which - if optimized properly with internal links - can pass a lot of juice into your primary pages.

Syndicate Content - Send out articles and press releases online. Sites like ezinearticles and similar article websites allow you to place links in a resource box. It's a slow and deliberate process, but even after the panda update from Google it still has bearing on your rank and should be part of any seo strategy.

Trade Content - If you're burnt out on writing for your own blog then offer up a guest post to another blogger. Give them a spot on your site and offer to write for them sometime when they need it. This reduced your work load, brings you original content and helps you build links to your own site when you start posting to blogs elsewhere.

Get Local - Join your local Chamber of Commerce as well as the Better Business Bureau. These organizations often publish links online to their members. It's a great way to get a link from an authority site. Depending on the structure of the website for the local CoC, you may be able to get a link off a municipal/government website.

Check the Library - Does your library have a website? Get a link to your business up on their website. You can do the same for a resource listing at local colleges. The benefit here is that you can often get your link into a .edu domain. These are often more trusted by the search algorithm and pass on more authority.

Make a Lens - It takes a very short amount of time to setup a Squidoo lens, usually about 15 minutes once the content is in place. Create a quality Squidoo lens (or Hubpage) to create an offsite content hub that makes you look like an authority. Link to other resource sites, and include links to your own site for seo and traffic sourcing.

Forum Sigs - Most forums allow a signature with links to active members. Create a sig, get into forums relating to your industry and start talking. Not only can you get some seo value from these links but you may also get some members slipping over to your website through your signature.
