So, how is it that search engine optimization companies out there are offering guarantees -- and getting business? Firms offering guarantees leverage their prospects' ignorance of SEO.
SEO guarantees are carefully worded in a way that protects the seo vendor, but does not actually promise true value to the client.
For instance, a search engine optimization guarantee might be that the vendor "promises to deliver Page 1 positions for 20% of the keywords provided across at least 8 search engines."
The guarantee does not promise to position the client's web site specifically on Google, Yahoo and MSN, which make up 85% of searches. Since the goal of seo is to drive traffic and leads to your site, Page 1 position on little known search engines with limited traffic provides virtually no value.
Likewise, the vendor offering the seo guarantee typically does not promise to deliver on specific keyword terms, and intentionally includes very niche terms for which it knows it will easily position your site. Those niche terms likely generate little traffic, again providing little value.
The vendor has met the terms of the guarantee, but has failed to help your web site perform.
A credible seo company may show you the results of their work, but not offer you a guarantee. Check their references and ask their clients if they got what they expected.
